Rick Gomez (Sgt. George Luz - Band of Brothers) on what’s the legacy of the series, over a decade after it first aired.
“My grandfather, who served in WWII — was in the Navy — used to say to me:

Why do you always shovel the steps with just a path for people to put their feet on? You don’t think that it’s the holidays? They’re gonna come with luggage that they want to put down, and they can’t carry it, they can’t balance it. And you’re shovelling a twelve inch strip! You have to shovel the whole step, you have to shovel the whole damn thing.

And it wasn’t until Band of Brothers that I came home, kissed and hugged my grandfather and said: ‘Thank you, I finally understand.’
It was a generation of men that shovelled the whole step, and we’ve lost sight of that. My generation, going and doing [Band of Brothers], looking through that keyhole, seeing what that was about, was an absolute epiphany for me and I get it now…
There are some times in life when you have to shovel the whole damn step, and they were a company of men who did that.”
